Bad Scenarios

Just think for a second. How did those politicians from Copenhagen look to you after Copenhagen? Weak? How would any person on their position and belonging to the system as we know it look to you? Also weak? All right, they are not really weak. I could add something politically incorrect here about their strengths, but I respect this meshwork. Well, what's their (and anybody else's in their position) problem? They belong to power networks, different in the world as we know it from adaptive networks (Sibout Nooteboom; High Noon - 20 Global Problems, 20 Years to Solve Them by J. F. Rischard). This place in the internet is, in my opinion, the most serious candidate for our cause (or your cause - I am totally irrelevant). So, let's mention some possible reasons for our failure:

  1. It's too late to do anything,
  2. Overpopulation will do its work,
  3. People who can do something relevant here (regardless of their positions out of virtual reality) hesitate to make the first step,
  4. Business as usual, economy as usual, authorship as usual, and egos as usual will do their work,
  5. This tool is not good enough for our cause,
  6. No one can make a tool good enough for our cause,
  7. There are too many habits to change,
  8. ...

If we want to do things that make a difference, this meshwork is the right place. Discuss.

8. People are afraid of the meshwork falling apart. Count on me forever, all right? I'll be the last person who will leave this ship.

It's a long way, and we haven't even started for real. Obstacles on the way can make people understand "those evil, weak, and corrupted politicians." One cold winter and everyone will have an opinion about global warming (yes, it does exist and we are the problem). This century will be the century of problems: water, food, overpopulation, raw materials, peak oil, unsustainable cities... This meshwork should be a place for people engaged in solving all these problems. Of course we all know that, but it tends to be forgotten in difficult times. Don't react, anticipate.

One bad scenario is discussed in the topic http://2020.global.gaiaspace.org/global/mod/groups/topicposts.php?topic=12601&group_guid=12220.

Let's assume that nothing relevant in the field of sustainability (green products, population control, carbon capture and storage, renewable energy) will ever happen? Who is wiser in this scenario - a person who sacrifices his/her time and nerves for a dead cause or a passive observer? If the system will inevitably fall apart, who is more intelligent - a mere survivor minding his/her own business or a person who suffers while trying to do something?

Is there a cover story at the moment you are reading this comment, something that everyone speaks across the world? Whatever it is, something big and global is a hot topic right now when you are reading this text. What is all that mess (you know what I'm talking about better than me because this text is from the past) about? We have reached many tipping point and now they are bumping into each other. Politics is different, economy is different, the situation with natural resources is different, media and social networks are different. Debts and unresolved conflicts are stretched to their limits. Even worse, the changes are accelerating. There were lesser changes from 2000 to 2010 (when this comment is written) than from 2010 to 2011. You are at the beginning or in the middle of perfect storm. Use your surfboard.
