What is crisis? What is the difference between a crisis and an opportunity? We live in an interconnected (some might say flat) world. Economics is a science of stable societies, growth, unlimited resources, and consumerism. Our world used to be different not so long time ago. Everything in the way we behave can change our environment: food, drink, raw materials, energy, entertainment... We must live simpler lives (especially in the more and more "flat" world). But how?

Do our lives have a purpose? If they do, it's not to eat and drink the whole planet. On the other hand, we must keep on living artificial lives, we can't just return to hunting and gathering. There's nothing left to hunt and gather. Our global population is huge and forests and seas are almost empty. We must radically change our habits, reduce our population and move to the background. We must do it, but I doubt that we can do it.

The purpose of people is to work and buy, to earn and spend money and to feed GDP. Eventually, GDP could eat everything.

Can we discuss seriously about sustainability without touching the holy cow of eternal growth? Whatever we do, the size of global economy and population will be very important for plans and predictions. Kill that cow.
