Gaia Education promotes a holistic approach to education for sustainable development by developing curricula for sustainable community design. While drawing upon best practices within ecovillages worldwide, Gaia Education works in partnership with universities, ecovillages, government and non-government agencies and the United Nations.
Since 2006 Gaia Education successfully supported the delivery of more than 40 programmes on five continents. Internationally, the number of four-week long intensives and other course formats are increasing steadily along with a sharp increase in the number of applicants and participants of these courses. These vocational courses are open to a diverse group of people with a wide range of professional and academic backgrounds who are interested in taking an active role in the sustainability transition.
With regard to higher education and academically accredited courses Gaia Education so far endorsed a series of semester-long undergraduate programmes offered by Living Routes and the University of Massachusetts which are taught at various ecovillages worldwide. The first steps towards creating a masters programme in sustainable community/ecovillage design based on the EDE curriculum have been made by the Findhorn Foundation College in partnership with Gaia Education and Scottish universities.

Hi Samantha and all,
Gaia Education and Gaia University sprang from the same group of people meeting over a number of years to develop the content for the EDE ... there was a little split over issues of accreditation and timing of when to become a 'university'
... there is still a lot of overlap and both institutions whish each other well and cover slightly different ground and attract different learners.
best,
Daniel

Awesome! Add to this the work of Gaia University - Gaiauniversity.org, which has created a non-local, nodally replicating education model along similar lines.
